Georgia Congressional Candidate Chalis Montgomery announces support for Sanders' Medicare-for-all bill
Georgia 10th congressional district challenger Chalis Montgomery supports U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders most recent plan for universal health insurance, her campaign announced today.
“I stand with Bernie Sanders and Democrats like Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren and Kirsten Gillibrand, who have joined his call for single-payer healthcare,” Montgomery said. “I support this bill because the lives of millions of uninsured Americans provide a clear cut moral imperative.”
Sanders is set to introduce the Medicare for All Act of 2017 Wednesday afternoon with medical professionals, patients, and business leaders by his side. The bill would expand Medicare to all Americans under 18 immediately, and to those under 65 over four years. All essential aspects of care would be covered by this government-run plan.
In Georgia many rural care providers have shuttered their doors or are on the brink of doing so because of out-of-control health care costs and unpaid bills. This legislation is part of the solution to solving the healthcare crisis in the 10th district.
“I join with those who believe that health care is a right for all Americans, not just a privilege for the chosen few,” Montgomery said. “My own family is facing the long term costs and care needs for my 7-year-old daughter, but hers is just one of a million or more stories of everyday Americans who have had their entire lives changed by having to figure out how to pay for and manage long term and traumatic care, recovery, and even basic healthcare and prescription drug needs. We cannot continue on like this; our citizens deserve so much better, and fixing our nation’s broken healthcare system must be a top priority of Congress.”
